This is the craziest marketing idea I’ve ever seen for a coffee shop!
So one might ask, “How is this legal?” Two words, parody law. My guess is the parody law won’t stop Starbucks for suing as fast as you can say Grande.
Dumb Starbucks looks almost exactly like the real Starbucks.
The Dumb Starbucks offered free coffee throughout the weekend and is staffed by 2 baristas.
I would suspect the only people that will end up looking dumb is the owner that started Dumb Starbucks. Starbucks has deep pockets and great lawyers. I admire the attempt by Dumb Starbucks to bring this parody to life. If they are allowed to stay in business I’d guess this idea will be copied throughout the country. The more ridiculous the parody the better because of the tons of free news articles, blog, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and posts. It’s a business model that creates endless free marketing.
Both signs inside the fake Starbucks and outside look almost identical:

It’s tea time at Starbucks. Starbucks is now pushing a line of tea drinks. To kick off this occasion Starbucks is offering a Tazo Tea for $2.00. Between Jan. 6-18, Starbucks Card Rewards members can enjoy any tall tea latte for just $2 when they use their registered Starbucks Card.
Starbucks Coffee is giving away free tall size brewed cuos of coffee to voters today. According to Bloomberg.com Starbucks may be in violation of federal election laws which prohibits payment of money, goods or services in return for voting, said David Ammons, spokesman for the Washington secretary of state. I don’t understand why Starbucks is being picked on since Krispy Cream is giving away free doughnuts if you have a “I voted” sticker and many other restaurants are giving away freebies for voters showing proof. Since the secretary of state said it’s forbidden Starbucks now has to give away free cups of coffee away for voters and non voters. Here’s a list of election day freebies.
This is just an OK deal coming from Starbucks. Starbucks at least in Seattle seems to be running deal after deal. First it was the free coffee in the morning with coupon now this nationwide Starbucks deal. Get a Starbucks Iced Grande Beverage for only $2.00 after 2:00PM for morning customers. This is a substantial price cut from the normal $4.00 for Grande Iced Grande Coffees. The only catch (It’s a big catch) you need to show a receipt from your morning Starbucks visit. So basically you’re paying full price in the morning to get the discount in the afternoon, not to mention you spent money on gas to get there. Not a good deal in my opinion coming from Starbucks and Howard Schultz, but thought it was worth a blog post. Offer runs until Septermber 2nd 2008.
Another Starbucks promotion! This time it’s exclusively for Starbucks card holders and those with gym memberships. The deal is for a Free Starbucks Vivanno July 29th, August 5th and 12th from 2-4 PM. Just bring in your Starbucks card or gym membership card to get the Vivanno coffee for free. Here is the fine print: “Offer good at participating stores only. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted. Cannot be combined with other offers. Not valid if reproduced. Not valid at Barnes & Noble Cafés. © 2008 Starbucks Coffee Company. All rights reserved.”
