The Honda Civic GX is similar to your standard Honda Civic with one big difference, it runs on natural gas. The Civic GX was rated as the cleanest burning internal combustion engines in the world by the EPA. The Civic GX is 75% cleaner than a standard gasoline-powered car. According to the Honda web site, “The GX has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $25,090 but may cost you less. The Civic GX may qualify for a $4,000 federal tax credit for eligible buyers.” To give you an idea how much natural gas saves you take a look at this information that I dug up from a recent MSNBC story. The article is titled, “Natural gas cars: Clean, green, going nowhere Honda’s green Civic winning rave reviews, but practical for few drivers.” Kind of a downer title, but what it did say is in California where one pays more than $4.00 for gasoline, natural gas is only $2.12 – $2.22 a gallon. The Civic GX gets 33 miles per gallon as opposed to the regular Honda Civic that pushes 29 miles per gallon. There are two downsides to natural gas one downside is infrastructure. Currently only California and New York have enough natural gas refueling stations to make driving this car practical. Also, the Civic GX has a range of 220 – 250 as opposed to the regular Civic that gets 500 miles per tank. If you would like to know more about the 2009 Civic GX I’d suggest visiting Honda’s web site.
