Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 Review & Rating: Here’s What You Need to Know

Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013, the new security suite from Webroot , contains new features and enhancements that improve its performance and user experience.  It not only works for PCs, but also Macs and mobile devices such as iPhone, iPad and Andriod-based smartphones.

Features of Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013

Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 occupies only 700K of the user’s hard drive, which is a significantly smaller footprint than most, if not all, other antivirus software out there. To minimize its footprint, Webroot doesn’t keep its virus and malware signatures on the user’s hard drive. The signatures, updated constantly, are kept on the cloud. This approach allows it to scan for threats such as viruses and malware in less than 2 minutes. Also, unlike other antivirus software, Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 doesn’t slow down the user’s computer with security patches and updates, as the signatures are updated on the cloud.

To minimize the usage of a computer’s system resource, Webroot’s realtime protection only checks files for threats when the user’s action might lead to the execution of a file. For example, opening a folder that contains malware will not trigger a realtime check. However, if you click on a file, the realtime protection will kick in.

In addition, Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 offers the vault feature, which allows users to store their usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, and other confidential information securely. When a user opens a password-protected website, Webroot SecureAnywhere 2013 automatically fills in the login credentials, which is very secure and convenient.

To protect the users’ privacy online, Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 has a built-in Identity Shield feature. It prevents websites from tracking the users’ private information and also disallows programs access to their login credentials. Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 applies additional protections against secure websites. These additional protections include blocking key loggers, disallowing screen capture, protected clipboard data, etc.

Furthermore, Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 allows users to back up their files online. It comes with 25GB of online space and additional space can be purchased. The files are stored on Webroot’s server and are encrypted to ensure security.
Other features of the Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 include:

– Firewall

– Social Network Protection

– Unsafe Link and Search Results Identification

Lab Testing

To check Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013’s ability to detect and handle real-world threats, many tests were done. One of these tests was performed by AV-Comparatives. The researchers at AV-Comparatives gather new threats on a daily basis and test how well an antivirus software protects against these new threats.

When Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete 2013 was pit against new files, either good or bad, that its database can’t identify right away, it switches itself to the monitoring mode and journals every single action taken by these programs. At the same time, it limits these programs’ access to sensitive files on the user’s computer. After a complete analysis of an unknown file, if Webroot determines that it is malicious, then it uses the journal to undo all the actions performed by the file and quarantines the threat. Unfortunately this process can take hours to finish and AV-Comparatives wasn’t happy about this test result at all.
