Looking for custom keycaps? There is a new and exciting Kickstarter by Joel Collins of SA Pacific that may have the product for you. The product is custom key caps suitable for any mechanical style keyboards, (like corsair, razer, etc.). If you are like me you think of computer keyboards as a tool, a means to an end. Custom key caps are not something that I usally think about. I have owned a “customized” keyboard in the past, but it was customized by the manufaturer, not by me. SA Pacific has made me think of computer keyboards in a whole new way. The company featured on Kickstarter allows you to fully customize your keyboard in a pleasing Lockheed Martin inspired color pallete. Boring keyboards will be a thing of the past with this new custom computer keycap set by Joel Collins of SA Pacific.
In order for this project to get funded they need to have more backers in the next few days.
Support Kickstarter Here:
The keycap set is said to be “soothing, electrifying, and comforting, all at once.” I’d encourage you to at least watch the intro video about the campaign it explains a lot. There is passion behind this campaign. The blue color pallete is inspired by Lockheed Martin. Why Lockheed Martin you ask? Mr. Collins is a Computer Scientist, Physicist, Chemist, and mathematician. Currently, he’s working as a Research Scientist at Lockheed Martin. He has partnered with Signature plastics, Space Cables, and Specter Custom Mousepads to complete this Kickstarter. Signature plastics is well known in the custom keyboard community and has a great reputation. The line of products doesn’t just stop at keyboards, you will be able to purchase a custom cable and desk mat which will be color coordinated. “These two add-on extras will be available as part of the add-on beta program. The Custom cable will feature a USB-c, chrome plated, detachable, and color coordinated mesh sleeve that will help to accent the keycaps set. The large mousepad will be XXL (35″x15″) and 3mm thick. The add-on versions of these items will be 10-15% cheaper than the stand-alone rewards for those items.” In a world where everyone owns and wears the same thing in order to stand out from anyone backing gigs on Kickstarter is a great way to get something you won’t find anywhere else. It will inspire your work for years to come.
This is not just any generic keycap set. The base product features 104-keys, SA profile (1-1-2-3-4-3). It’s made of thick plastic, quality you can feel as you type. The plastic is highly sculpted to further improve the typing experience. For a limited time on Kickstart get the exclusive Pantone coated plastic keys. Once the $15,000 project goal has been reached an exciting add-on kit will be unlocked for $1. This bonus key cap kit will feature 21 Lockheed Martin specific legends (See Picture Below).
Then, if that wasn’t enough, once the $17,000 threshold goal is reached a $55 add-on for custom cable package will be posted. “This custom cable will be a custom Cerakote color combination, with Dark blue base color, Pacific blue mesh, chrome aviator plug, Coiled, USB-C, 1.5m in length.” But wait there’s more! 🙂 if/when this Kickstarter reaches the $19,000 threshold there is another bonus that will be unlocked. You will be able to purchase a XXL desk mat for $45. These 35×15, 3mm thick desk mats will feature a custom design. There’s even more! At the $20,000 level another colorway version of the Keycap artisans and keycaps will be available as add-on.
Kickstarter Levels Of Support
First level of support is $10 or above. Support at this level just because you believe in the idea and want to help Collins out. The next level of backing is $50, this gets you a thank you note and a XXL watercolor deskmat. $65 gets you a custom space cable and thank you card. Pledge $110 and that gets you a custom XXL mat and custom space cable. Pledge $184 or more and that gets you the keycap set custom version and dark version. These items will ship anywhere in the world. No matter where you are backing from he will ship to you.
Conclusion
I’ve actually been in the market for a new keyboard. I might have to snag one of these custom cool Lockheed Martin inspired keyboard cap sets. Even if you don’t know much about Lockheed Martin these keys are very pleasant to look at from just an aesthetics point of view. Since we are spending more time than ever behind a computer and a screen during the pandemic why not make the entire experience as satisfying as possible. Consider supporting SA Pacific and Joel Collins today on Kickstarter. Who knows may you might write your next novel on his set of keys.
