Jazz Meets Electronic Music Mark de Clive-Lowe On Patreon

As I mentioned last week in a Cash Sherpa post the one thing I miss the most during this pandemic is live music. In my city just a few weeks ago they shut down bars and restaurants again, and music venues… well music venues haven’t been open for almost a year now. If you are like me and want great music to continue and not devolve into soulless baby shark songs everywhere consider supporting musicans you care about now. There is another interesting artist doing great things listed on Patreon that I’d like to bring to my audiences attention. His name is Mark de Clive-Lowe and Mark creates jazz-meets-electronic genre music heavily incorporating music technology (ableton, native instruments maschine) in his process.

Mark de Clive-Lowe started his Patreon after everything got shut down due to the pandemic. He has been a touring artist for 20 years non stop up until this point. Mark needed to do something, he thought, “since i’m not able to go anywhere, I needed to find an outlet for my creativity.” Patreon seemed like the obvious choice, since it allows artists to produce what they enjoy creating and income to facilitate this process. It is as close as a win-win business model that I’ve ever seen on the Internet, the secret is that it’s self sustaining. Seth Godin talks about art being “a human act, a generous contribution, something that might not work, and it is intended to change the recipient for the better, often causing a connection to happen.” The issue with art only being a “generous act” not paired eventually with some sort of income is it will eventually lead to not enough money in the bank. What happens when there isn’t enough money? Well, you start focusing more on the bills and less on the art. So that’s why I think Patreon is so powerful as a platform. We can have that “generous act” of creating art, but also be supported by a community of fans.

Mark says the best thing about Patreon has been “the feeling of community on it – it’s been really special to get it going. even just our monthly community zoom sessions, everyone shares music they’re loving at the moment and we listen together and chat about it. That kind of thing has been building the community vibe there a lot. We just started community creative collaborations too – inviting members to collab with me and each other regardless of skill level or experience.”

Not only you’ll be able to listen to Mark’s newly created tracks you’ll also get a front row seat to his creative process. You’ll get access to a community on Patreon that likes and supports great music. The Patreon community will get new exclusive music every month as well as access to his extensive archive. The archive includes tracks, monthly livestream performances, community zoom chats and behind the scenes livestreams breaking down different projects, tracks and collaborations. For the music-makers, there’s in-studio zoom sessions, video lessons, multitrack stems, sample packs, and more. Mark’s Patreon page also just started community creative collaborations through his Discord server that’s open to everyone. There’s an exclusive Patreon-only vinyl, private access to works-in-progess and monthly mentoring/lessons available too.

What Benefits You’ll Get:

As a Patreon supporter at the $3 get access to the vault archive. Invitation to Community Collaborations. Invitation to Discover Server. Bonus content and first listens. $10 per month gets you the Vault+ exclusive new music monthly, livestream live set, and monthly community Zoom chat. $25 per month (Top Level) gets you the Vault+ Front Row+ which includes monthly studio sessions, behind the sceens livestream, access to WAV remix stems for selected releases, bonus video lessons, and access to sample pack downloads.

Everything is sounding good to me from a Patreon standpoint, but what about the actual music? Luckily for you Mark de Clive-Lowe has a YouTube page where he is a featured artist. Check out the YouTube “With Love From LA” page here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tTedQZJLPY “With Love From LA presents this month’s feature artist – jazz-meets-electronica artist Mark de Clive-Lowe. Today he joins us from his home studio with a special WLFLA set.” If there is one thing that stands out to me is the creativity is taken to the next level. “I’ve always been an advocate of integrating technology with music.” He has every piece of DJ equipment, keyboards, software, live drummer, lights, it has to be experienced in video form to appreciate the scale of the production Mark is putting on.  This is not a Mark de Clive-Lowe exclusive YouTube page so you will need to sign up for Patreon in order to continue watching content such as this. Mark started piano when he was 4 and his experience shows. He grew up aspiring to be a jazz musician and fell in love with hip hop and electronic music along the way.

Supporting Science Fiction Stories And Novels By JD Maverick

JD Maverick is creating science fiction stories and novels and needs your support on Patreon and Kickstarter. The Kickstarter campaign is specifically for a web novel named ‘Cross Roads.” Cross Roads is set to be a slice of life/science fiction web novel with the unique theme of “magical girls.” Visit https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2045434624/cross-roads-web-novel for more details. The more broadly focused second campaign can be found on Patreon where the first $500 will go towards the internet story and novel Maverick. Please consider donating to JD’s Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/JDMav

Cross Roads Novel  Publish The Novel With Patreon

Right now both campaigns have zero backers. JD Maverick needs your help! Please consider supporter the author and make the next novel come into existence.

Kickstarter Campaign Breakdown

“This campaign will help me cover the costs of publishing the novel independently, like the cover and formatting, as well as the cost of setting up an author website. If I exceed my goal of $2,000, I will use the extra money to pay for advertising and possibly some other marketing activities.”

Kickstarter Campaign Risks?

“Unless a meteor falls from the sky and obliterates me before I can hit “send,” there is not much risk involved with this project. The book is already written, and is already formatted for both the e-book and print book versions. The only issue I can foresee would be that if my day job gets too busy, it might delay me in sending rewards out to everyone as quickly as planned.”

Any Kickstarter Rewards?

Yes, there are rewards! $1+ gets your full name added to the book, $5+ gets you ebook and full name, $20+ gets you previous reward and paperback copy of book, $30+ gets your name and hardcover copy, and finally $50+ gets you paperbook, hardcover, and name. As you can see reward levels are very reasonable. $1+ gets you name, that’s one of best offers I’ve seen.

Patreon Campaign Information

Patreon if you don’t know already is a place mostly for artists and creators that want to earn steady monthly incomes from their work. Patreon is a great place for JD Maverick to crowd fund the novel.

“For the past 15 years, I’ve created the world that was built on a dream, which hopefully will become a reality. I work a full-time day job that quite frankly takes a lot of my time. I have bills to pay and I work at least three jobs.” Patreon will JD transfer from the working world to publishing full time. This campaign is for my internet story and my novel I want to publish. First $500 are reserved for the internet stories. Instead of releasing a chapter every two weeks on a Thursday, I will be releasing a chapter every week when I reach my second goal. Which you can read all the previous and future chapters at Wattpad.com. Patrons pledged to at least the 5$ Tier will get full access to my internet stories in the form of a fully colored Hi-res PDF Files every month.”

Why Patreon?

“I work a full-time day job that quite frankly takes a lot of my time. I have bills to pay and I work at least three jobs. Also do podcasting but not really making anything out of that right now. I also do consulting work– whether graphic design– but that is in flux as well. Even on my days off I still work my projects so I don’t know anything about slacking off or even goofing off. To be honest I was never even raised that way. I was always raised by one simple rule. A role that my parents and teach me but the world has taught me: if you don’t work, you don’t eat. Plain and simple.”

Any Patreon Rewards?

Yes, like Kickstater there are Patreon rewards to be had. $1 gets you a thank you, $5 gets you story access, $10 gets you the novel “Second Renaissance: Bitter Harvest” and access to stories in hi-res PDF files, and finally $20 gets you “Patreon Versions of earlier and future web novels of Second Renaissance, Generation Me and Cross Roads in physical paperback form. Patreon Version of my new novel “Second Renaissance: Bitter Harvest” in the form of a fully colored Hi-res PDF File. You will get full access to my internet stories in the form of a fully colored Hi-res PDF File in every release.”

Sidewalk Illusions by Artist Julian Beever

These are amazing pictures! Julian Beever is a English chalk artist. Julian has been chalk drawings on pavement since the mid-90s. The technical term is trompe-l’oeil drawings. To get the illusion he uses a technique called anamorphosis. If one uses this technique you can get the illusion of the third dimension if viewed at the correct angle. He also paints murals for companies, replicas of classic paintings, and collages. The amazing part of these painting I think is the fact that they only take one day to create. Many times these chalk paintings are gone the next day. Beever is currently based in Belgium. Just yesterday I was talking about viral marketing. A company hiring Julian Beever to do a chalk painting in the middle of the city what could be more viral than that?

In 2010 Beever actually released a book of chalk art called, Pavement Chalk Artist. The book shows all his work from around the globe.
