Before Uber, Lift, and other ride sharing companies I used to use traditional taxis. To get downtown each way it costs about $50 with taxis, then you had to add a 20% tip on top of that. When Uber and Lift came around I thought it was amazing I could now go downtown at about half the price and I didn’t have to tip! The app made it so convenient. The whole concept was amazing. Fast forward a few years and I started to learn that all rides are subsidized losing money on each customer. For this reason the cost increase of rideshare was inevitable.  Also, local governments got involved and begin to put substantial fees/taxes on each ride. That’s coming from the perspective of a customer, things aren’t any better for the drivers. Drivers have to pay gas, car washes, and service for their vehicles. Imagine a post-apocalyptic world where rival nations wage war to compete for global dominance. What if I were to tell you this post-apocalyptic story would be told in a set of graphic novels that will be released on Indiegogo? If that doesn’t excite you I don’t know what will. The graphic novel being launched on Indiegogo is called MAVRICS: Origins Vol 1. by Aaron Neff (Writer/Creator), Garrett Gabbey (Artist), Eric Weathers (Letterer), and James Thomas (Editor). In this sci-fi epic, elite pilots in robotic combat suits wage war on the battlefield of tomorrow. I’m intrigued.

As a kid I used to collect comic books. My favorite comic book was X-Men, especially the character Wolverine. This was before the popular X-Men movies, mind you, but we still had the X-Men cartoon. Graphic Novels are similar to comic books, but differ in that they tell a story in one single book. Graphic Novels can be fiction, non-fiction, history, fantasy, or anything in-between. Then there’s the art work/images of the MAVRICS: Origins Vol 1 which is much higher quality than the comic books of my past.

The goal of this Indiegogo Graphic Novel is $500. I’m happy to report they have crushed that goal to the tune of +2207%. The MAVERICS Graphic Novel has raised $11,035 and has 156 backers. The concept and design has taken 20 years to get to this point.
