Mars Rover: Has it Found a New Home for the Human Race?

Mars Rover: Has it Found a New Home for the Human Race?

As the year 2012 draws to an end, more and more people think about the theories about the world’s end and how it is supposed to happen this year.  Though most people believe that life will continue even after this year, they also believe that the way we are treating our current planet would sooner or later bring it to an end.  This is why they turn to science and the possibility of starting colonies on other planets.

Subjects of the Study

This is one of the reasons why a number of missions to Mars have been launched, with the latest being the rover “Curiosity” that left the earth in the year 2011 and landed on the huge planet on August 2012.  This particular rover had a huge array of tools at its disposal just so that it could test its surroundings and send back information that could help us understand the planet more.  Its focus would be on a number of things, particularly:

1) Studying he chemical composition of the soil and rock formations found on Mars (how did the rocks get there?).

2) Finding evidence of biological processes (if something is taking place that may result in life).

3) Determining if the planet has a water and carbon dioxide cycle.

4) Identifying the type of radiation on the planet.

The information that is found during this run would determine how we will be able to send out manned missions to the planet in the future.  Of course, a man would be able to find out a lot more data than any advanced machine that is currently in existence.

“Earthshaking” Discoveries

Late in November of 2012, the lead scientist of the Curiosity Rover said a few statements that increased the amount of speculation around the project.  Before any official announcement of NASA, John Grotzinger was heard saying that the “data is going to be one for the history books.”  Imaginations ran wild as people thought of a lot of possibilities, from proof of life on the planet in the past to the discovery of an alien ship.  Of course, the lead scientist did not provide any further comment.

The release of the information was scheduled to be on the 3rd of December, however the attempts of NASA to decrease the amount of speculation started even prior to that.  A spokesman of the association did comment that this wasn’t the first time that the lead scientist was excited by the data coming from the rover, and that the information they had was “interesting” but not exactly earthshaking.  This same speaker also stated that the whole mission was going to be for the history books, as it is a step towards the study of a new planet.

The unveiling of the information on December 3 was more of the same, with a lot of information regarding the findings being tossed about.  Essentially, the rover went to Mars with tools that would allow it to identify organics in its surroundings.  It was able to positively identify organics, and it even found carbon in its samples.  The two other questions that remain to be answered are: a) are the organics biological in nature, and b) are the carbons really from the planet Mars, or were they introduced by the rover?

These are truly exciting times, especially for those in the scientific community, because these are the first steps that are being taken which would usher in the time of space exploration.  Still, the information that excites scientists may not generate the same reaction from the general population.  That is because scientists are looking at possibilities, while the rest of the people look for the final result.

So the rover continues to work, and NASA continues to plan for future missions to Mars in order to get more information.  Will humans have a new home soon?  It may be too early to tell.  However we know that there is the possibility of that, and we will wait for more information as we imagine living life on a new planet.

Hey, great article. I am really impressed that you brought this matter in your posts; mostly I guess that NASA is up to something new like they are building this curiosity rover to find life on Mars planet. What if there is life on mars and lives leaving there.. I am waiting for the NASA news update.
